Penguins at Boulders Beach

Last Sunday Mr and I visited Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town. It was a warm and sunny day, which was quite a pleasant surprize for Winter. We found parking easily and walked down to the beach. There are two beaches here and you are able to see penguins at either one. We went to the first beach, closest to the parking lot, but if you meander down the road you’ll find a second beach that you have to pay an entrance fee.

There is an upside to paying an entrance fee, because you will see more penguins than at the free beach. I wasn’t expecting to get up close to any penguins at all, I was just happy to be out and about for the day.

We were enjoying the sunshine and the warm water against our feet when these two beauties popped up in the water next to us. No one else was around, just us and the penguins. It was a special private moment. I had never been so close to a penguin before and it was absolutely magical. We’ll be back really soon.

If you are in the Cape Town area or ever plan to visit, put Boulder’s Beach on your itenerary.

    1. I am so glad you like the photos, I was balancing taking the pics while squealing with glee. The water is warm for Cape Town, the water is cold here. If you are looking for really warm water, head for Durban instead 🙂

  1. How wonderful Lindsay. On Kangaroo Island, off the coast of South Australia, there are colonies of penguins and sea lions, it’s such a special place. These are gorgeous photos here, what a lovely experience for you. 🙂
