Sharing Poignant Photographs from the Fees Must Fall Protest in South Africa

I do not usually post news events on my blog, but this one is difficult to ignore. I came across these images on Facebook by Lee-Roy Jason Photography.

FeesMustFall is a student led protest movement that began in mid October 2015 in response to an increase in fees at South African universities. Protests started at the University of Witwatersrand and spread to the University of Cape Town, the University of Pretoria and Rhodes University before rapidly spreading to other universities across the country.

Here are the poignant images taken by Lee-Roy Jason Photography. They perfectly capture the seriousness and severity of this situation:

What are your views on these images?

My prayers go out to all involved.

  1. The photos were shocking. As the mother of a former law enforcement officer I found it so disturbing to see so many officers being attacked and brutalized by the students.

  2. This is just horrifying – but I am also glad to know this is happening.

My heart is heavy for both sides. Police officers do not deserve to be hurt but the students do not deserve to be tear gassed for standing up for what they believe in.
