Thank you for coming! I’m so glad you could make it. Grab a glass of sparkling wine or juice and mingle away.
Just a bit of background about how Mr and I met:
We met in November of 2011 at the office kitchen where we were warming up our lunches. He initiated contact with a friendly “Hello” and we took it from there. I just started a Twitter account, where he Direct Messaged me for a few days until we met for breakfast, which turned into a game of putt putt and late lunch. He told me that he had a daughter and I told him how old I was at the time and he thought I was too young for him. By the end of the date I was convinced that the date went well, but we wouldn’t see each other again. Well needless to say, we continued to see each other. We started a business together in 2012 and had our son in 2013. He is currently working abroad so we have a long distance relationship (for now).
How he proposed:
We’ve been looking for rings for a while and we finally found one that both of us loved. He proposed just after midnight on New Years Day in his parent’s living room. We had just arrived there on the 31st. We hardly see them, because they live in another state that’s about 12 hours away from Cape Town. We were gathered as a family in the living room and started the count down and he got on one knee and proposed. Mr said about two words before I began crying. I was crying so much that I couldn’t even say yes and he couldn’t complete his proposal speech. I found out that he had texted my parents before he was going to propose so they were in on it the whole time.
Now I want to celebrate this event with you. So let’s get this party started!
Rules of Engagement:
Tell us a bit about yourself and leave a link to your blog or social media account.
Feel free to add some advice for me regarding wedding planning, engagement tips or marriage tips.

Am I first?!
Congratulations! These are very exciting times even if this month has been crappy to you. My advice would be to try to keep it simple and as low stress as possible so you can enjoy it more in the moment.
My blog is https://bigandpinkytoes.wordpress.com/ where I write about food, family, and whatever other random stuff I come up with.

Thank you so much for being the first to comment on this Meet and Greet. That’s some excellent advice. So what do I do about crazy family members that try to make it anything but simple? 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah that’s where I ran into problems. The crazy family members trying to do it their way or maybe were trying to live out something they didn’t get.
I’d say ahead of time try to know what you have really strong opinions about and what is most important to you. Like the venue or cake or whatever. Let it be known from the start. And the rest maybe irritating but if you don’t fight the smaller stuff too it may save you some stress.

Thanks, so pick your battles? I just don’t want to end up paying for something that other people want. 🙂

Yes precisely pick your battles.
Oh yeah if nobody else is helping you pay for then they for sure don’t get a say. i mean offer an opinion maybe. But if they want to be picky or have a fit they should be pulling out that checkbook!

A big congratulations from me!! My little chip in …make it your wedding…what you want ! Don’t stress yourself about all you can not get done immediately. One step at a time and you’ll get there. Your family will make a lot of fuss because they are excited just be sure to tell them what you really want but allow them to help you through the process, they somehow have brilliant ideas too. But hey…work within your budget. Wish you the best.

Good Morning and Congratulations! Being engaged is the last step before total commitment and a wonderful time to speak honestly about what each of you expect from one another for the rest of your lives. It is going to be a long road. There will be great times and fun times and joyous times but there will also be many obsticals and trying times. The path is long so hold on to each other, make your decisions together. Listen to each other with love and that love will grow day by day, year buy year. Respect and honesty are two important factors. Never take each other forgranted. If you cry then cry together, hold on to each other tightly with the love you started with and in forty or fifty years you will find out that your love has grown like a nurtured flower and is more beautiful than the day you planted it. Remember it is your wedding and both of you should agree with love about what that day will be like.
Be aware this is coming from an almost 74 year old woman that married many years ago. Our eldest child is 45 and our youngest is 38. They are all married and raising our grandchildren and our joy continues. Best of luck and love to you both.
Now I will take this old body to meet some of your guests and enjoy the food and a nice cold drink.

Congratulations! What a great reason for a Meet and Greet Party!
The best advice I received when I was engaged: Pick your top 3 things that mean the most to you (mine was venue, my dress, and flowers) and make sure they happen as you want. As for the rest, don’t sweat the small stuff!
Here is my blog: https://whistlewhileyouwaitblog.wordpress.com/
I share about celebrating the little joys in life (like travel) while walking through the journey of infertility. I’m looking forward to checking out some new blogs! 🙂

Thank you for coming and for sharing this helpful tip. Did you and your husband each have 3 top things (so 6 in total)? I love your blog and visit it often.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Thanks for visiting my blog and hosting this fun party! My hubby didn’t have a top 3 things. He didn’t have too much that he absolutely needed. He is more practical and was in charge of logistics and budgeting. I guess his main must-have was ME, everything else he didn’t worry too much about. 🙂 But if your fiance has some must-haves, than I guess he should get a top 3 too. Maybe some of your top 3s will overlap!

How sweet…First things first http://elancreationpainter.com Next, I have been married to my best friend 38 years this year. We still like each other, which is so important. Of course our love runs very deep, but we like to hang out with each other. We laugh all the time, even when the times are tough. We’ve raised 4 kids and are very proud of all of them. Never forget those vows you took, they really mean something ❤ Blessings on your new journey ❤

I think some advice would definitely be to have a theme to your wedding, and maybe homemake some of the food so you don’t have to spend so much money. For example, you could take an easy sugar cookie recipe, add some lemon zest to spice it up, and triple the recipe! 🙂🙂

My husband and I have been married for 32 years. The wedding ceremony was for everyone but us. It was all a blur. If we had it to do over again, we wouldn’t elope but we certainly would scale it back and do just what’s important. What’s important is going to vary by couple so my advice is to do what makes you and your fiancé the most happy.
Also have fun and don’t stress about it!

Thank you for the well wishes and kind words. I appreciate it. ❤ With all the different elements that go into a wedding eloping sounds pretty good right now. We have to have two weddings – one white wedding and a traditional African wedding so it's a lot to plan. 🙂 We will have fun and stay true to ourselves and what makes us happy.

It is one thirteen am in England this is the last post (pardon the pun) tonight. Congratulations i raise my fizz in recognition. Once the snot and tears have subsided and all is cleared away my advice would be… remember above all else keep the ceremony secondary, as it is about what you believe and feel together. The show doesn’t make it stick, the dress won’t make him love you more and never try to change each other…
On that note be happy.

Congratulations on the engagement! I’m so happy for you guys! My hubby and I skipped the whole wedding thing and eloped on a mountain in Scotland. (We are from the United States.) We went by ourselves and had a big party at the park when we got home to celebrate with our friends and family. I come from a long line of elopments, and a long line of marriages that last. Figure out what’s important to you and your family and compromise on the rest!

Hi Kim here,
First, Congratulations! You’ve had lots of really good wedding advice, so I’ll just add one –remember to eat at the Reception/Wedding Breakfast. I was so keyed up and happy that the caterer had to remind me that I was drinking champagne on an empty stomach. He told me it was a common problem with brides in his experience and then produced a little plate of fresh nibbles to tempt me to eat. Wonderful man!
We’ve been married for 31 years, and I count my husband as my best and truest friend. We do still argue though! An argument is not the end. My mother told me to never go to bed angry with your husband, and we both try to keep to that.
Another poster said, “if you cry, cry together”, and that rings very true with me. Our greatest sorrow brought us closer rather than split us apart.
I have a poetry blog at https://thecheesesellerswife.wordpress.com/ and I’ve snuck some love poetry to my husband onto there….tagged ‘marriage’.
Enjoy your day!

Hi there Kim! Let me start off by saying that I love your title – The Cheesesellers Wife. Your tip is really crucial, because I lose my appetite when I’m stressed. Your caterer was so sweet and considerate. 31 years is an achievement, I wish you many more happy years together. Your mother is a wise woman. We’ve gone through some tough times and I share your sentiment that it brings us closer. I can’t wait to have a look at your blog and your work. Thank you for coming to this meet and greet. ❤

Congrats girl! Something told to me when planning my first wedding was focus on the little details because the big stuff is going to fall into place. Though my personal advice is if planning becomes too stressful, just scale back and reconsider the things that are causing stressors. I let myself be bullied by my photographer and DJ when I should have just stepped back and hired different ones, but I didn’t want to cause waves.
I have a passion for the experience of retail, which truly is a dying art, and a transitioning idea. I offer professional advice, mall experiences all over the US, and personal retail anecdotes that can really relate to anyone who has ever worked with people, no matter the field they are in.

Thank you so much! I know that you recently became a Mrs so I value your advice. I think I’m avoiding physically planning the wedding right now as I fear it all becoming too much or too stressful.
