1. Always use room temperature ingredients unless otherwise told by the recipe you are using.
This a very important step in the baking process. Most recipes such as cakes and cupcakes call for the creaming method. This is when you cream together the fat (butter most likely) and the sugar(s) together until the mixture is light and fluffy. This ensures that whatever you are baking comes out light and airy with a soft crumb.
Other ingredients include eggs and milk. (Or any other dairy type for that matter).
