Rice makes a great and cheap base for a sensory bin. Here’s the way I dye rice:
You will need:
2 Cups of rice (White and uncooked)
1 teaspoon (t) white vinegar
A few drops of food colouring
A few drops of vanilla essence (optional)
A Ziploc bag or sealable lunch box
What to do:
Place the rice into the Ziploc bag or lunch box.
Add the vinegar, food colouring and vanilla essence. (The more colouring you add the darker the rice will become. You can substitute the vanilla essence with any scent you prefer.)
Seal the Ziploc bag or lunch box and shake till all of the rice is covered.
Lay the rice on a tray (I used an old foam punnet) and let it dry for a few hours.
Notes:
The more colouring you add the darker the rice will become.
Vanilla essence can be left out completely or substituted for any other essence.
Put a layer of wax paper between the tray and the rice so it doesn’t dye the tray too.
Let your kids do the shaking bit for you.
I left the rice in the sun and it was dry in an hour.
I hope you enjoyed this post
